On Sunday 10th Sept we were passing by the Windmill near Afferden, at 1 Kerkdam. It was having an open day, so we stopped to have a look (myself and my wife were both on motorcycles.
Just as we were leaving, i started to talk to a man called “Stan” who told me all about the Sunset march. I have a fair interest in WW2 and the liberation but I had not heard about the action by the 82nd Airborne near the bridge, so i was very interested to hear about it. I hope that the next time that we are visiting (we live in Scotland) that we will get the chance to see the march. My gratitude to the veterans who honour the fallen with their evening march.

I served as an enlisted soldier in the 1/504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, NC from April 1975 to November 1978. While in the 82nd Abn Div, I learned about what happened at the Nijmegen Bridge in WW2. I was 19 years old back then and did not appreciate the significance of the sacrifice of the men at that bridge back in 1944.
I am now 68 years old and am currently in Belgium for contract work. I just read about the Sunset March and sincerely appreciate the daily sacrifice you make to honor the men who sacrificed their lives at the Nijmegen Bridge back in WW2. I trust that while I am here in Belgium that I will have an opportunity to travel to Nijmegen to witness the Sunset March.
Respectfully,
